People who vote for whatever's newest probably just like it best because it's in recent memory and they enjoyed it. They might not have a strong overall opinion on their favorite game or they might have come to /vp/ just because they liked this gen so much, or just got back into Pokemon and haven't played the others, or so on. Look at where XY and ORAS are, they're not above BW2 or HGSS despite the fact you say newest games scored the highest for their respective polls. If that was any indication of whether /vp/ as a whole really did like them best, they would have held that position.
That said I'm not going to claim to know where /vp/ would vote for USUM to go, just that it's too new to have settled into its rightful spot and these polls are more interesting tools to gauge old favorites than new ones.
