Solgaleo and Lunala don't actually represent the sun and moon, they're just really strong ayylmaos that arrived in Alola a long time ago and became worshiped as sun and moon deities by defeating the Tapu in battle

Tl;dr There's nothing mystical or godly about them like other legendaries, they just earned the legendary title by being really powerful.

(originally from a 2009 issue of Nintendo Dream so they obviously hadn't thought of Solgaleo and Lunala yet)

because Crystal sort of mixed the two together in animated sprite (barely) and change the colors of some PKMN and after 3rd gen came out and the sprite were way different going from GBC to GBA.
