Zeraora a bad design? I really like that. It's similar at the past, 4th gen and before. And other pokemons in this list are nice.. so i'm not saying they're terrible.. they are particular.

If you are talking those specifically and not their entire lines I agree. Because Whimsicott is adorable. But on that list I only can sort of dig Charizard X, if only because it embraces the edgelord to the max.

It would be easier to defend if all 3 Kanto starters got two megas, one dark and one light. But they cheaped out and only gave it to Charizard, so it's just unnecessary.

OP here.

It uses the same concept as the Jumpluff line but somehow takes all the charm and fun out of it. The Jumpluff line look like carefree sky babies that love pollonating shit or whatever. This fucker looks like NOTHING. I get that Gen 5 reused a lot of ideas already done, but a white bearded circle that looks the exact same viewed upside down is so boring that it might as well not exist, why not have Whimsicott as a standalone Pokemon.

The way Cottonee's features are hidden by its fur give it a timid, reserved look of something doesn't like to go off the bleaten path. This goes well with the fact that they are group animals that feel protected with their fellows and how they allow their selves to be carried to any place by the breeze, the opposite of Jumpluff which actively chooses where it wishes to go. They're similar concepts, but reverse characters. It can also be finely juxtaposed by its evolution in which it grows out to become an active prankster, but still rather reserved in how it executes such pranks as they are all harmless.

I only think the last part has any merit to it anon. I do agree that its transition from a quiet shy character to the opposite is something, but Cottonees design should probably reflect the concept in SOME way. Maybe its got little horns about to poke out, maybe you can see its brown body poking through, or it looks worried and scared. but its got no character. Without knowing that it turns into what it does, it's just like Sunkern without the meme aspect. It's two eyes on a fucking ball.

You're walking along, you see a Pokeball on the ground and you think "oh nice", only to see the thing you've grabbed/stepped on is alive. It's fucking furious with anger, it's giving you the eye, and about to explode. It's an "OH SHIT" moment.

Electrodes Pokedex entries talk about literally nothing except for how it keeps electricity in its body, and feeds on it. Why does it have shitty, poorly drawing eyes? Why is it smiling now? Why are its colours inverted? It's literally just a Pokeball with eyes, and nothing more than that.

Personally I think the 'lack of character' is what makes the design. It makes the thing soft and weak to inspire protective instincts, but not pitiably so - a balance that I feel is hard to hit. I agree that little horns might have been a nice addition, but that'd require changing Whimsicott along with it as the leafy ears are what turns into Whimsicott's horn ears. But then again, I'm incredibly biased towards designs that have a lack of expression. I find it fun to find ways around their blankness.
