To be honest as time went on the animations for the pokemon attacks seem to drag on so I just turn off animations if I have the option, for quicker battles.

I can't find a single reason why Gamefreak wouldn't gave access to these very same animations in the first place. It'd be a waste for the main games to not use them.

People are already bitching about the battle animations taking too long, that's why
I'd love to have PBR/Colosseum style battle animation again, but it's not gonna happen because every single encounter would take years

I feel the animation that OP posted is a bit long for the main games, but maybe a shorter version of it would be cool. It looks a lot more creative and dynamic I think.

There's nothing pre venting them from doing this on 3DS from a technical standpoint.
However, long animations are detrimental to the intended fast paced nature of the mainline handheld games. Our only hope to see something like this is if we get something like stadium or PBR, or another weird spin-off.

Because ANIMATIONS themselves are completely trivial for any console with 3D capabilities. The only thing the 3DS might have trouble with is replicating those exact same textures, particles and effects.
Giratina surging from the shadows to attack like that though? 100% doable.

Or do you honestly believe every shoddy excuse Masuda comes with on the spot?

I think a big part of why those animations are as well done as they are is because the pokemon have a VERY limited movepool, and are given special animations to said moves.
They just gave them animations for specific moves instead of ambiguous animations for multiple moves because the pokemon don't have access to their whole kits.
Still pisses me off that they can't just do that in the games anyways.

There's a huge difference between regular animations and stadium-grade animations.
Everyone wants some sort of naimation but not so many want battles to take twice as long.

Gen 4 had trouble with its slowness and part of it was because its long animations. Turning them off was far FAR away from being a satisfactory solution.
