They're in denial because they don't want Kanto again, even though it makes perfect sense to do it again.
They weren't just going to continue to only remake newer games and it's been almost twice as fucking long as the first remake time period for Kanto now (Feb 96 > Jan 04 is just under 8 years while Jan 2004 >April 2018 is over 14).
