Would "casual" players really buy a Switch to play Pokemon Switch if the game basically just looks like USUM? I think a lot of people (not just pokemon fans) are expecting something big akin to Botw and Oddysey. They might get turned off if the game ends up looking like a 3DS game.

Only so many people care to ride Switch’s coat tails. Most Pokemon fans don’t play much else of we’re being honest, a lot of people have made that observation before. Somehow Pokemon appeals to people who’ve stopped caring about video games, unfortunately they will move on someday

At least the Switch has other games worth playing if Pokemon Switch doesn't live up to expectations. The DS and 3DS would have been complete trash to casuals without Pokemon.

I can say with absolutely certainty that I would if Gen 6 and 7 weren't such awful disappointments. I have little hope for 8 anymore unfortunately

On one hand I think you're underestimating the brainless sheep mentality of the millions of casuals that buy these games. On the other hand, I really hope your right. Gamefreak desperately needs a reality check that their safezone formula has gotta stale a long time ago.
