The problem is that voltorb then evolves into electrode, which is just a bigger ball that just swaps colors, not really creative at all, also voltorb is 1,8ft, that's a little above your knees height, while a pokeball is suppose to fit in your hand, so unless you've never seen a voltorb before and you're curious what this ball is, it wouldn't work.

Voltorb and Electrode are pretty shitty mimic designs. They're literally just Pokeballs with eyes. Nobody cares about the concept if the execution is garbage.

Except items in the overworld are represented with Pokeballs and in other rpgs most mimics are just chests with faces anyway.

Yeah and?

The simplicity of Pokémon designs is always what has made them so appealing. It's the reason Pokémon has beaten crap with overdesigned garbage like Digimon. I just want a cartoony cool looking dog that can breathe fire or coat itself in flames and tackle enemies like that, nothing more.

Noctowl is miles better than Decidueye.

The dex entries state that people mistake voltorb for a Pokeball. The dex also states that Voltorb is 1 foot tall.
There's enough reason why the player would mistake Voltorb for an item, but there's no logic for why that would happen in-game.

Good, there's nothing wrong with having "plain" animals, some animals in real life are plain. It can make it more immersive. Walking around a grassy field and coming across a fucking keychain with eyeballs fucking makes my blood boil

Plus some of the fire types have more thought put into them than "OMG THEY JUST PAINTED AN ANIMAL ORANGE!" Salamanders are associated with fire in mythology. Nightmares are also horses associated with fiery imagery, not just "THEY JUST THREW FIRE ON A HORSE AND CALLED IT A POKEMON" Since no animals in real life have fire powers they have to get creative sometimes though, and even though it just looks boring, I'd argue replacing manes/quils/wing scales with fire is a good alternative, they didn't just paint them orange

Mimics in general are simple. I get that they had to get creative if they wanted to use the concept again, but I'm fine with a basic "treasure chest with eyes" like every other game.

Sigilyph is bottom of the barrel Psychic design and a prime example of why Gen 5 has more bad than good. Everyone always brings up Garbodor and Vanilluxe when talking shit about Unova but Sigilyph and Mienshao are the ones that come to my mind.

Simplicity design doesn't mean better. A good design have to works properly, and the Decidueye one is amazing on how it works. And the first gen has not started with "simple design" because we have rhydon for example which it's not what we can say a "dog that breaths fire".
