Poison types have notoriously shit moves in gen 2, but there options that can take advantage of their other type, like Bellsprout/Oddish, Gastly, and Nidoran.
Grass types are kinda wimpy with not a lot of variety. You can get many of them early on though, like Chikorita, Bellsprout, Oddish, Exeggxute and Hoppip.
>Normal modeFire, while strong, leaves you only with Cyndaquil, Growlithe, Flareon and Magmar.
Bugs are the opposite, having huge variety but being relatively weak, with the exceptions of Scyther and Pinsir.
Ground types are decently strong, and you can start strong with Geodude/Onix, Sandshrew, Nidoran, Wooper and Phanpy.
Flying, like Poison, has shit moves but many Flying types are also Normal so they're fine. There's also decent variety like Scyther, Gyarados and Xatu.
>Easy modeWater you get Totodile and Poliwag right away, with Wooper soon after, Chinchou and Staryu once you beat Whitney, and all sorts of stuff after you beat Morty, including Lapras. Not to mention all of them learn Surf.
Normal pokemon are super plentiful and Normal moves are super strong in this game because badges. Give Strength to everyone and win.
