Even if you just lurk and never post anything, that's still better then nothing, But you aren't going to be able to git gud and actually find people to play with without using it.
You could just use the Pokkenarena fourms and not the discord, but nobody uses the fourms for disscusion, only for posting guides and resources: All the friendlies and disscusion happens on the discord.
