Switch is a handheld that can pretend to be a console by connecting to your TV which was already possible anyway, you just had to modify in your own AV out or have someone to it for you.
99.9999% of the marketing treats it as something you take on the go, meaning not like a console.
Also, Game Freak are probably the reason the Switch is what it is.
