What if by chance they release the new gen 8 games in the next few months, with no announcements beforehand? It would be a great surprise and make for great publicity.

Kyogre chiming in, not a bloody hope. While Pokémon is big, it still needs to tell people when it's releasing and shit like that. Absolutely no chance they'll just turn around and drop it. They've likely got the whole marketing push sorted out by this stage at any rate.

The only way they could get a genuine surprise release drop where everyone can play the game unspoiled is if they release it on the eshop. Otherwise info on the game would definitely get leaked from the time they get manufactured to the time the stores receive it. Not to mention for all stores to be able to receive it on the same day is impossible.

Still it's nice to imagine if something happened like that, where discovery is at 100%.
