>But if you like a rather uninvolved story then S/M and US/UM are fine....is not true. I like story. Love story. But story does not have to restrict exploration. Gen 1 and 2 showed that perfectly well. One of the main problems there being the opposite. They could still have done way more with the story in those games without killing the exploration.
No game past HG/SS is excellent because they keep removing shit and locking down exploration more and more on top of it.
When you are capable of making content and no longer have technical limitations but continue to make games as if you do, what you're making is not good enough even if it is good. This applies to all of the 3DS games, even if I do like X/Y more than most do. My opinion of them though, has nothing to do with the facts. While they made decent strides in terms of QoL improvements, they are not as good game play wise as they could and should have been. The same is true of OR/AS - US/UM with them giving asinine reasons for why they didn't return content a lot of people were looking forward to.
It also doesn't help S/M that it was admittedly rushed and US/UM are barely any better. Yeah, they are complete rather than rushed out beta versions like S/M so they're better but they're very similar so if you've played S/M they're just rather annoying.
The new guys do basically nothing.
The new area they hyped up is just another empty fucking hallway.
The story, one of the few good points of S/M, was screwed up by the changes they made and side additions made it make even less sense.
They kind of returned one event of the Frontier finally and completely screwed it up, attaching it to the Plaza which most people didn't like in the first place, requiring you to link with certain people every couple days VIA THE INTERNET (local doesn't do it) or you lose their help and have to resort to Level 50 newbs while you're trying to face opponents who might be level 100.
And so on...
