they're just following the game animations

in gen 4/5 it looked like a bunch of stones randomly shooting into the opponent, in gen 6 and 7 it looks slabs erupting out of the ground

I liked the DP and S/M series animation of stone edge but it seem useless on a flying opponent. It would have cool if the user could also shoot those pillar at their flying opponent.

Sky attack , Hidden Pokemon, Night shade , Night slash , Brave Bird and many more attack

Stone Edge is much better now. It didn't even make much sense before, really. Same with Waterfall from Gen 6 to 7.

Gunk Shot changed a lot too from Gen 6 to 7. I prefer it now, but a lot of people liked the garbage throwing thing.

On a side note, HJK animation is so underwhelming. Hope they give it a good update in gen 8.
