Probably GSC/HGSS, although there are plenty of individual themes where I prefer equivalents from other gens.

Like goddamn the regular trainer battles from gens 3 and 5 are FIRE

Tossup between gen 2 and 3, with gen 5 having some really nice tracks too. Gen 4 is boring if you ignore the explorer games and gen 6 is mediocre too. Gen 7 is decent.

Take off the nostalgia goggles my bros. Aside from maybe Route 10 and the E4 theme, ORAS' soundtrack is superior to the originals.

Unova has some god tier town and city themes but a lot of the battle themes are subpar. The BW rival theme is probably the worse rival theme in the series.

Why the fuck does everyone think XY and ORAS have good music? The instrumentation is so ungodly tinny and bland and even Ichinose barely worked on them (and didn't work on XY at all). All the best songs in Pokemon are by Ichinose.

I know alot of people (especially /vp/) hate Arceus' battle theme, but i personally LOVE it. It's just so different but also perfect. I like to imagine him as a Final Fantasy type of optional boss that's not only super annoying and tedious to get to but also practically impossible to beat while hearing his theme.
I love Groudon/Kyogre and Rayquaza's themes in ORAS.
I love the first like 20 seconds of the Regi's theme.
I melt when i hear the piano in Cynthia's theme from SSB. I also like the Sinnoh Wild music from that game.
Gen 7 as a whole has amazing music, both overworld and battle. I LOVE the usum trainer theme, idk why. Team Skull Grunts and Plumeria have awesome music, imo. Aether battles (employees and bosses) have awesome music. Hau has great music especially as champ.

I don't understand why, but i have WAYYY more fun listening to Pokemon soundtracks than i do playing games. Also that anime hoenn elite four music.

The OST in ORAS is just so fucking watered down for the sake of it until the point it becomes background noise. It may work better in a fully 3D game, where you don't need strong music as your aide to give the player a good impression, but in a shitty 1:1 conversion of the whole region, it just plain sucks.

And you can't even slap a GB sounds on it to make it better without further work when a fucking game released 5 games prior already did.

No? Most of ORAS' remixes don't really have that oomph that RSE's tracks have. The best example I can think of is Slateport. Every time I listen to its theme in ORAS I fucking cringe, it feels like there's something fundamentally missing in that track and it bothers me. It's probably the bells.

That's not to say ORAS' soundtrack is bad. It has some decent remixes and themes. Zinnia, Rayquaza's remixed entrance theme, Deoxys, Regi theme, those are all really nice.

XY soundtrack is just not impressive and memorable.ORAS fucked up some of the Hoenn soundtrack,but made some of them even more romantic and exciting.The new themes they added into ORAS are really good tho

Personally my favourite.The town themes makes the game much more relaxing and lighthearted.The character themes perfectly portrayed their personalities.The route themes are similar to each other,but still not bad.The battle themes are intensive and fun.
