i dont really get all the hype around pokemon following you. i mean, i found it neat in hgss, but people just seem to REALLY like it.

Because it improves the atmosphere, and Pokemon feel then more than just tools for battle.

pokemon have mostly just been stats and images. this kind of thing brings a little life and personality to them. there's pokemon amie now, but i think following pokes are nicer as an idea.

It doesn't do much in the game, but it made me feel like Pokemon were apart of the world and not just 6 numbers and a picture.
HG/SS's theme was about the bond between people and Pokemon, so it makes sense that they fleshed it out.

Really, Pokemon just needs to have more of them on the overworld in general. They don't need to follow you, they just need to be visibly around. They feel strangely absent when they only show up during battle or scenes.

I hate this argument so much, considering the old games already have identity by the pokemon in them, old features like the physical/special split the stories and side content like safaris and contests etc. Its such a blatantly lazy way to exclude a feature thats been demanded for years and has no drawbacks being implemented.
