And I guess I'm talking more about the use of the trash synths (the word trash is literally in the name of some of these), and general tuneless, rhythmless noise, or what is so unrelated to any attempt at a core tune that it sounds like it. Yeah, a lot of those synths can be used effectively. There were a few messy parts in the Ultra Recon Squad battle music, but overall it made good use of it.
I'm probably subconsciously just being a snob biased against non-traditional percussion.
