Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist already exist, and they already have a "Halloween" kind of theme to them, so if you're going for a pumpkin pokemon you have to explore other ideas to put them together. There's no correlation between a turnip and a pumpkin other than they're plants.
I'm assuming they're Grass/Ghost, so you have to look for references into what makes them ghost types. A lot of ghost types have interesting backgrounds.
Good Pokemon designs have good silhouettes. They read easily and are instantly recognizable. You have to consider that while designing and a lot of drawfags don't get that. That's why even Ultra Beasts are recognizable just by standing and also in movement, and also without color.
With that said, you might wanna go back to both designs because they're bland and uncreative. The ghostly tail is a good start on the turnip, maybe add some ghostly arms or even dark shadow-like arms that lash out or whatever. Change the faces as well.
The pumpkin could something else entirely different, maybe a scarecrow-like Pokemon with a turnip head. The turnip Pokemon can possess clothes or scarecrows and that's how it evolves. Shit like that is what makes Pokemon interesting and unique just by looking at them.
Generation 1 is over and done with. They were very interesting because it was new to people, but now that the franchise is reaching Gen 8, a lot of Pokemon designs have interesting reads to catch people's attention so they can continue buying the game, and attract new fans.
