How do you feel about the amount of legendary Pokémon that should be in a generation? Does more legendaries = more better?

There are too many legends. There should be an absolute maximum of five per generation, ideally 3 (duo plus one powerhouse) or 4 (trio plus a powerhouse).

Agreed, every gen after 3 (except 6 of course) went too far. Anywhere between four to eight legendaries is the sweet spot.

Personally, I'd:
-remove Cresselia and Heatran from gen 4. I don't have anything against them, they're just the least interesting imo
-remove either the forces of nature or the swords of justice from gen 5
-add a duo or trio to gen 6
-make Type: Null and Silvally regular Pokémon instead of legendaries. That still leaves you with nine, but since four are part of an evolutionary chain, I don't mind it too much.

I like a lot of legendaries, for lore and other such things, but it's very much dependent on the ratio as opposed to the actual number. Sinnoh and Unova had roughly the same amount of legends but Unova had the large enough dex to back it up and keep things going, whereas Sinnoh didn't. Hoenn and Unova have the best ratios as far as I'm concerned.

I think I preferred Legendaries when they were just legends. Just powerful animals that people built stories around. Like Articuno is a Legendary that people in Kanto say guides people down from mountain tops back to safely to land. Now is Articuno actually doing that or is it just a bird that's annoyed that there are people in its territory? Well we'll never know for sure. That's why its a legend. Lugia is called the Guardian of the Sea because supposedly it can quell storms. Now does Lugia actually do that or did a guy at sea watch a storm end just as Lugia was flying by?

Newer legendaries are less like animals and more like actual gods. It's not up for debate whether Groudon is the embodiment of land because he causes catastrophes with his existence. Dialga and Palkia are the masters of time and space? Actual god?

It's just gotten too out of control. The Tapus seem a bit closer to animals than previous legendaries. Well maybe animals is too much. More like mischievous spirits that aren't on anyone's side

After? I'd say it was in gen 4. Heatran and Cresselia fulfilled pretty much no purpose. Regigigas is cool, but it doesn't really fit in Sinnoh. Why would a trio master be in a different region altogether? I suppose there's also Lugia, but that kinda makes sense, as Johto is canonically right next to Kanto.

Yes, actually. If you filter out legendary & mythical pokes on the gts, UBs will still be displayed. So in-game data does indeed say that they're not legendary.

You're right, Heatran doesn't serve a purpose. Cressila though was made to be the opposite of Darkrai, but Darkrai is a Mythical which is a hole thing in itself that I hate.

RSE is also good because the legendaries are hard to get. The roaming legends have a whole ocean to travel around, the regis are part of a huge multi layer puzzle, the box legends might be forced encounters, but they don't have stupidly high catch rates, and rayquaza has the Sky Pillar which is probably a better version of the Unknown Dungeon. The Mythicals are even interesting with Deoxys' puzzle

Fuck no. Gens 4 and 5 have way too much for no reason. I understand the appeal of postgame legendary hunting but I personally don't think it's worth the bloat. Superfluous legendaries never get the treatment they deserve, they just feel tacked on.

The perfect number of legends is 6-8.
3 for the main/cover trio, 3 for the minor trio, 1 or 2 unrelated legendaries just to add more lore to the region.

The perfect number of mythicals is 1 or 2, preferably related to the legendaries in some way (like Mew, Deoxys and Arceus). More than that and they just feel forced.

In-universe, mythicals are different from legendaries because most people are not sure if they even exist.
Legendaries are part of the region's culture, and almost all locals recognize them as those super rare and powerful pokemon that did something important for the region ages ago, or currently live in a secluded area somewhere. But mythicals are something only a handful people have heard about, and even less people believe they're actual pokemon and not just fictional creatures. That's why in japanese they're called something like "illusion/phantom" pokemon.

But for us players the only relevant difference is that most mythicals are unobtainable in-game without events.
