What does /vp/ think about Yokai Watch and Digimon in 2018? Are they good series alternatives to Pokemon?

i never played Yokai but i enjoyed digimon cyber sleuth a lot didnt pick up the lastest two games though

but if you want somthing to scratch the monster taming itch
Digimon or Dragon quest monster are fine alternatives

yokai watch has a better anime and personally their games are better than the Gen 6 and 7 games imo:
>larger postgame with secret bosses and dungeons
>real boss fights and a boss rush mode
>more room for challenge and strategy beyond "hit this with this move"
>yokai while on average have worse designs than pokemon they also make up for personality
>down to earth town setting that makes it feel comfy yet has a good amount of exploration which also ties well into the story which is typically more light hearted slice of life until yokai shenanigans occur
>skippable cutscenes
>more side content with side quests/mini games etc.
>free dlc updates to expand the postgame instead of one off events
>more opportunities to make your favorite yokai useful with specialized items and as of the 3rd game you can increase any yokai's rank to S rank
I can see why its off putting for a lot of people ho dislike the designs but if you can pick up the 2nd games for cheap I highly recommend giving it a play through
