Got moon version today. What am I in for with it?

Never played a gen 6 or 7 game before not counting alpha sapphire. Ended up getting moon instead of ultra moon cause by what I have heard of the story i'm fine with skipping on extra end game content to make the main game more interesting. But I don't know if stuff like the new ultra beasts can be gotten in moon from means like trading.

If it’s not too late, exchange it for Ultra Moon. There’s really no reason to play Sun/Moon. It’s like playing Diamond once Platinum exists.

I just got it today and have 7 days to return it and if I didn't like the game I was going to return it anyways. Was considering getting it or yokai watch 2 (really like the dragon quest monster style combat from the first game). Not really sure how I feel about getting ultra moon since by what I heard they really changed the story and really liked the whole idea of the aether foundation and Lusamine being the bad guys in the story.

Moon's "better story" can be summed up with video of the cool sections of cutscenes.
The Ultra ones are very similar, but they also have better core gameplay. Regular Moon doesn't even have a Victory Road before the E4, which Ultra does (and before someone says "Poni Canyon," both have that).
Ultra Moon bosses are much better, especially the electric, water, and story climax (Not Champion) bosses.
In addition, there's several small areas in the main game that can't even be accessed in Moon, like the top floor of the hotel.
