Nuzlockes are a shit-tier playstyle. All challenge is removed by grinding and that requires no skill. If you don't grind, you just need to hope that your opponent doesn't crit you because 99% of wild Pokemon are too low-level to face trainer Pokemon.

Speedrunning is the best type of challenge run. You have no time to grind and since you'll be avoiding as many trainer battles as possible, experience and money is a resource that you actually have to manage. Obviously that's assuming that you don't rely on RNG manipulation to win the lottery or other forms of bullshit that are used in "competitive" speedruns.

Mystery Egg runs are the best "challenge" run because you're stuck with whatever you hatch. You gain access to Mons you wouldn't normally have, and you can enjoy discovering new niches in those mons.

Randomizer runs are also great when the RNG doesn't offer you a legendary as a starter.
