They're throwing garbage, not literal poison

Hence why the Gen 6 animation was throwing a garbage can, and in the anime, it was animated as throwing a garbage bag.

Getting stabbed or stung hurts, and being injected with poison sucks.
But getting covered in garbage is just plain gross. It damages ego on top of being a fucking disgusting way to gain nearly any possible disease.
