What Pokémon have you had low expectations, but still used in a play through and it turned out better than expected?

I got the exact opposite impression from my playthrough, Vespiquen qualifies for sky batles but is too frail to make it through one.

To be fair, if you're putting Vespiquen in a Sky Battle most of the time you're putting a bug against a flying type.
