I mean, yes, it did have a lot to live up to when compared to HGSS, but seeing what RSE introduced onwards, and then knowing that GF just decided to copy-paste only what XY had was just disappointing. I mean they just omitted the entire Battle Frontier, something that Emerald introduced, just because they think people would be too busy focused playing on their phones. I don't care who you are, but worrying about people spending too much time on their phones shouldn't be an excuse for removing an entire postgame. Then there's the Game Corner, which HGSS replaced with the Pokeathlon (I'm only guessing there, it's been a while), and then ORAS just removed it withour adding anything else
Hell, FRLG had more to do in them than ORAS did.
Not to mention I hated how they altered the main story just so they could shoehorn in more of their filthy Mega Evolutions, and I'm only just starting to tolerate what they did to Mauville City. Changing how Wally acts in the end was okay, but what they did to May/Brandon wasn't. Basically May/Brandon is just waifu/husbando fodder now, and it disgusts me to be honest.
Presentation-wise it was okay, of course they could've done so much more graphically, but they decided on block-for-block rather than natural or somewhat natural formations, the remixes were nice (except the Primal Kyogre/Groudon battle, I don't know about you but I fucking hated it, it was just the original theme but with a techno beat, the Rayquaza battle theme was way better and I think it actually captured the atmosphere of encountering one of the Weather Trio members).
And on a final somewhat-related note, I think that if we got the Hoenn remakes in Gen 5, then Gen 5 would have gotten a lot more love in general, and the RS remakes would actually be able to compare to the likes of HGSS.
