They didn't exactly take away the original necrozma design
I don't think it's awkward at all, and I think reptilian monsters are cool

It doesn't even look like any of the other dragon-types, but I've yet to hear why it's bad to have dragon-type legendaries

I hated Dusk Mane's design until TCG art made me realize the arms on its back are meant to rotate in any direction. It's still my least favorite of the 4 forms, but at least it doesn't look like Necrozma is a Clank backpack to me anymore.
