>>35360987Okay, there are three real parts to the Sevii Islands: Finding Lostelle, clearing out Team Rocket, and everything else.
> Finding LostelleThe Kanto Rider Federation is great. The devs took a bit of Kanto - all the bikers everywhere - that had nothing to do with the overarching story, and they gave it its little moment in the spotlight. There was also the guy with a shop on Two Island that got a little more stuff after you took care of the KRF - a rare touch indicating that the world really is an interconnected place where individuals can make a difference. Berry Forest is kinda boring, but, eh. And Hypno is an otherwise forgettable 'mon that deserved a story attached. That's a thousand times better than a mega evolution.
> Team RocketThis is one of the only times in any game when the bad guys steal something from YOU. Their warehouse is also a cool dungeon that's evocative of Rocket's bases back in Kanto. There's also the admin who has a change of heart after you defeat her - which, in its simplicity, is a thousand times cuter than anything gen V or newer. The scientist also has a Porygon, which the original devs opted to give to zero (0) trainers, despite being one of the cooler gen I mons.
If you see a theme of "fixing the problems Kanto had while expanding upon its overlooked positive qualities," hold on to your hat.
> The geographyKanto is... square. Artificial. Boxy routes, hard corners, no variability in height. Think of Viridian Forest and compare it to Petalburg Woods. The most complicated route is a maze - not a forest maze or a cave, but a maze of white picket fences. In contrast, even the introductory areas of the Sevii Islands are carefully tiled, natural-looking environments. There are curves and ledges and stretches of elevated rock. And the environments being represented are themselves cool - a volcano, a canyon, a rugged valley... nothing like the flat sandy roads of Kanto proper.
