um no. The switch to 3D is what compelled everyone (new customers) to buy XY. That's literally the big reason why most people who didn't even touch pokemon tried it out.

Z was skipped because Game Freak wanted to release gen 7 for Pokemon's 20th anniversary. It's also the reason why ORAS didn't have the Battle Frontier and why SM were rushed pieces of shit that Game Freak felt the need to retcon with USUM.
