This has happened to pretty much every pokemon game I tried lately:

>Hyped Up. Start it.
> first 20% of it: Best shit ever.
> Get near halfway point. Burning out.
> Take a break and never feel like opening file again.

Lately I've tried nuzlocking and/or randomizing main games;
Tried some new story ROM hacks I consider masterpieces (Clover, Prism) and other OK ones like Sweet.
Even some revamp hacks like Polished Crystal and Pure White, as much as I think are great, don't drive me to finish it.

How do I fix myself, /vp/?

I call this "Repetitive design syndrome". As the series goes on, it will get harder and harder for people like us to finish runs of the games. This is a combination of having played the games so much, and the games having such similar mechanics. Everytime you play a Pokemon game, you do the same thing: catch mons, train them, and beat the league. You do this in every Pokemon you play. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, but I digress. After countless replays of all the games, amounting to the same shit over, and over, and over again, it starts to get tedious to do it all over. The remedy? Take a long break from Pokemon. Good luck friend, I hope you find yourself craving Pokemon again soon.

I still have to play Gen 6 and 7, that's why I'm filling the void while I wait playing more Pokemon (inb4 last 2 gens suck, I'd like to try them by myself)

have one single file of each core game
now complete the following objectives for each game. Complete one objective in this list for ALL the games, and then move on to the next one. Use cheat codes only for event/game exclusive mons

>beat main story/game
>complete dex
>complete shiny dex

i guarentee you this will be fun

I usually stop when I have a fully evolved team. What I like is seeing my team grow stronger and evolve. When everybody's fully evolved, it feels like I'm pretty much done since the changes will be far less visible.

Actually I never tried SM neither USUM, tho I just began AS, even if due to various reasons I had to stop playing for a while and now I'm thinking of restarting it. Probably I'll just try and go on, but for a while I'll stop playing Pokemon, maybe I'll try the Ranger spin-offs.

nah, it's boring completing the dex, I tried it and it's just a tedious task to do. Sure, I've done the regular dex, shiny dex no way I'm doing it.

Ikr, I don't know why tho, I always liked raising my mons, in my old Crystal game I autistically brought every mon until level 50 just grinding on the ship journey Olivine\Vermilion. Now I just like arriving until the seventh Gym usually, when I have a fully evolved team

I appreciate your theory, but that's assuming the problem lies with the player. I ran through Battle Network just fine and never got tire of it (well, besides 4, but that just adds to my point). Good games never get old. I can go back and replay Mario 3 or Tetris or Ms. Pac Man any day. I can stomach yet another replay of GSC. Why? Good games have lasting appeal.

Sure, there is such a thing as burnout, but the 3DS game are pretty much designed with the idea that kids rather be playing with their phones than playing a boring RPG. So they give us more plot and less freedom and fans are left wondering why they struggle to get through games despite loving the series.

It's not you. It's not me. It's Gamefreak. Moon was the first 3DS Pokémon I finished (mostly because I forced myself to, my sister gifted it to me). These new games just suck.

I get Pokémon burnout too (I have poured YEARS of my life into it). but I usually just go back to showdown. Single player now is just so ... unsatisfying.

If you like RPGs and autistic grinding ...

Etrian Odyssey 3. or if you're a fan of visual novels and too much dialog, try the newest Persona. I've been playing Beyond the Labyrinth on my 3DS. Never released stateside though. It's a cozy, slow paced game, if a bit repetitious. If you can emulate or have a hacked PSP, check out the 7th Dragon 2020. One of my personal top 10's. but I'm also a weeb, so your milage may vary.
