ITT: You are personally selected by Game Freak to design and plan out the next pokemon game.

Assuming you can do anything with this game that doesn't stray too far from what the games are all about, what would you do?

Since the next game is a Switch exclusive, you have to by Amiibos to catch a Pokémon. To challenge a gym you have to buy $20 DLC, and the Pokémon Centers are a $.99 microtransaction. To nickname a Pokémon, you have to pay the name rater $5. Once you beat the game there is literally no post game, except for a Battle Tower clone that has a $30 DLC price tag.

Every area has several different weather conditions chosen randomly which determine what wild Pokémon appear, so you never know what you're going to encounter in a playthrough.

Just a normal game, with a few optional dugeons and a new island post game, with a little bit of expanded story (i.e. Sevii Isles) and a Battle Frontier. Maybe one or two post game exclusive dungeons that have legendaries in them, sort of like Giratina's dungeon in Diamond/Pearl, whatever it's called.

Define this. I assume that you mean "Don't do anything that changes anything. Just instead, what gimmicks would you give gen 8 and say something about a mature story or something" and leave it at that.

However if by pokemon game, you mean game with pokemon in the title and not necessarily main series. Then i'd like to experiment with action rpg pokemon.

I want my combat to be as similar to the anime action scenes as possible but it's very difficult to translate that into gameplay.
though my story progression has you going from gym to gym trying to reform the league.
along the way you encounter resistance groups and are competing with your rival who is also trying to form a league.

The villain organization has already won before the game starts by killing plant life and the country with a new legendary. As such grass-types are insanely rare, and are generally dual-types.
The player's Parent character is the ex-Grass gym leader and the player character joins an organization that attempts to revive the grass-based legendary.
The game focuses primarily on time-travel and Celebi becomes a companion. Version difference would be whether you go back in time or to the future, impacting the areas, pokemon, and legendary you find.
The two legendary pokemon would be Grass/Dragon and pure Grass.
Versions would be Pokemon Toxic and Pokemon Pure.
