At what point will it be 'too late' to expect a new game to be announced? When will it be wise to just give up?

Probably like end of august. If it's announced after that then it'll probably come out in 2019, before that there's still a chance for 2018.

Using the animu as "evidence" won't help because half the animu is already filler garbage so they'll just put in more filler garbage if needed

Discussion is rather moot until the financials drop. We''ll know with decent certainty whether or not it'll be 2018 or not then.

Once we know it doesn't matter. Either it'll release in November/December or it'll probably release in February - April.

Why mid May? The latest a new Gen was veritably announced the same year as it's release was April with B/W. Ignore the shitposter who talks about R/S being announced in August; their names were revealed then, yes. But we already had screenshots of R/S and new Gen 3 Pokémon by March.

I say mid-may because it could still happen if the Quarterly report in 2 days says "2018 release". If that's the case, then a trailer *should* be released around mid-may to have the time to promote the game right.

But once again, my mid-may guessing would only work if the Quarterly report announces a 2018 release. Anyway, the E3 would be way too late

That still doesn't answer the question, the financial report doesn't make any difference to the adequate length of time needed to unveil a whole new generation. Mid May would be too late to hype a whole new gen, region and Pokémon as well as being on new hardware. The latest we've seen was April for B/W which was released on an existing console and was a reboot of the series. A late unveiling would only make sense if the game was a remake.
