You have to wonder about Game Freak's design philosophy.
Most devs would never think of devoting time and however many thousands of dollars to an-ingame location that doesn't advance the gameplay in some way, but it seems to be all Game Freak does.

They love "random" locations. Hell, X and Y are full of them.

it's how you get the ash pikachu z-crystal in Ultra S/M if you bring eather the S/M compatible ash pikachus or the Ultra S/M exclusive one to it there's also a NPC that gives you a 5 question quiz and clearing that gives you a pikachu themed hat and shirt to wear.

you could say this about anything in the game though because when you take out one part is obviously seems insignificant and small but they add up. if we had a game with only the few specific things vp thinks is "important" and "real content" the game would still feel empty and shitty
