I never really understood the deal with legendary/mythical pokémons. Is there a difference ?
Are all legendaries uniques ? And the mythical ones ?

I allways thought there was only 1 mew and 1 mewtow in the world but i read on some site that they may be more.

Is there an "official", canon explanation about all that ?

Regis, Gen 1 elemental birds, Johto beasts, and maybe the other tier-2 legendaries (not box cover mons, save for Suicune) I know are confirmed to be rare, but not one-of-a-kind. Others, I think, are one of a kind per dimension (but, via wormholes, dupes can be caught). However, Arceus can say "Fuck that" and create another one of the one-of-a-kinds, for worthy master trainers, chosen ones, etc. (see HGSS).

Mew is not one-of-a-kind, it's just extremely rare/borderline extinct.

Legendary = obtainable in normal gameplay
Mythical = event only. Deoxys is still considered mythical despite being catachable in ORAS which is why it won't be a regular in gen ending legendary round ups.

Legendaries are the one you can catch in the game. Mythicals are event exclusives. Bear in mind, it's a recent distinction, previously official sources used those terms interchangeably, although in Japan the event exclusives were always referred to as mirage/phantom pokemon or some such thing.

No, not really. The games keep it very vague, never explaining how those pokemon just keep showing up in different regions. At least the sublegendaries (what the game files call the birds, regis, that sort) seem to have multiples.

Also lorewise there's a slight difference. Legendary pokemon are generaly believed to exist and have some part of the regions legends or history.
Mythical pokemon are so rare that many doubt their existence.
