I’m super hyped now. I just hope that Johto is included in the game, and maybe some new varaiants of existing mons, like maybe Kantoan Alola pokemon or something. Imagine the continuation of many gen1, gen2, and gen7 plots they can pull in it. It would be one of the best Pokémon games since HGSS.

Agreed. Kanto IS pokemon and every other gen ultimately exists because of the success of gen 1 and Pokemania. The majority of /vp/ is just an echo chamber of underage/barely legal hating on something that they weren't even alive for.

Now I get that people like what they like and there's nothing wrong with that. Each gen has something to the table with quality of life and technology improvements but if you look at it from a business standpoint, why would you not cater to the largest portion of your audience? You guys are crazy if you think a well done Kanto remake would not be successful. Especially given the hype of the Switch compared to previous consoles and how mediocre the last few Pokemon gens were (5-7)

It's a respect thing - ever since they remakes were handed off to the younger staff (who'd not been around when making the originals), they feel it's disrespectful to majorly change up how the story gets re-told to their senior colleagues. That's why every remake has some esoteric way of finding later Gen 'mons in the region, than just flat-out putting them as a normal RE (the radio in HG/SS, 'Dexnav in ORAS) You really think it's going to be any different if they DO remake R/G again?

Then I'm only one who doesn't. I know that if Gen 8 happens now, it'll be a half-assed shit technical-wise, like every first game for a new console is. And seeing how shitty Gen 6 and 7 were, I know that Gen 8 would be the same handholding casualized shit.

Really, it is a perfect time for a Kanto game now. Something that breaks the patterns, serves as a testing ground for new features, gives GF a while to reconsider some things before they release a new gen.

We need to forget about the shitfest called USUM before we get a new gen.

My brotha, that is literally what I said in my post. You can't look at something that was great 20 years ago using today's standards. That is not a fair comparison. Technology improvements in just the past 10 years has been insane. The Nokia brick phone would be like holding a square rock in your hand compared to the newest iphone/android smartphone but god damn you could do everything on that Nokia brick back in the early 2000's.

I dunno, that latest trailer with Pikachu hopping around the different generations on the previous game devices seemed to imply Kanto heavily.

Towards the end, they had a battle royale with Pikachu and three Kanto starters. It almost felt like a reveal trailer for something, but then it didn't.

Can we at least have one generation where we don't have to reference the region?
Gen 2 = Literal Kanto post game
Gen 3 = Kanto remake
Gen 4 = yet another Kanto remake
Gen 5 = A direct fucking homage to the generation
Gen 6 = Early obtainable Kanto starters and various Easter eggs and references.
Gen 7 = All Alolan forms were Gen 1 Pokemon, and numerous references and Easter eggs.

I dont know about you guys, but seriously this muh Kanto nostalgia needs to die. If they aaded some entirely new Pokemon, then I MIGHT forgive them. But if this is to be true, GF can go fuck themselves.

>Expanded regional dex to include all Gen 1 and Gen 2 Pokemon (later gens in post-game, for a total of 400+ obtainable in the game)

Honestly the idea of a reboot at this point and going back to Pokemon's roots is almost appealing at this point. Instead of worrying about a "gen 8" and how it's barely different and will introduce five new Pokemon, I can go into a new game with different expectations.

Plus Kanto (and Johto) is pretty cozy with an almost universally liked Dex compared to the current trend which is more divisive.
Unless they redo the Dex to make them rounder with more spikes, then rip.

Redoing Kanto without straight doing a remake could just be the start of Gen 8. New species don't have to be a new Gen but old regions don't have to be an old Gen either because it's the engine that matters.

The engine is the reason the Gen 1 remakes are Gen 3 games and the Gen 2 remakes are Gen 4 and the Gen 3 remakes are Gen 6 rather than their original Gen. It has nothing to do with anyone's opinions on them or "muh patterns".

Sticking Kanto in as the beginning with, say, half the new species/formes (including starters if they want, since Yellow gives them the perfect out - set the originals as side quest gifts) to buy themselves time for a new region with the rest makes perfect sense. It's easy since most of the work is already done in terms of design and will be eaten up by almost everyone if done right.
