Why wouldn't Roar be in Smash 5 though? Prima's got no legs and Deci's the reverse of Greninja's Pokken situation. It's really down to Helltigre, Mimikyu, or Carrot.

Literally the only reason I think Incineroar might have a chance in Smash Bros is because they're shilling it (even gave it an anime debut in the last pokemon movie. Even Greninja at least made its anime debut together with Chesnaught and Delphox in their movie). It happens to be good enough to be top tier in VGC on top of that, not quite unlike Greninja.

Personally, I think it's the fighting style he brings to the table. Pro Wrestling is still a niche that Smash hasn't fully tackled yet so that could fast-track him.

I could see Sakurai picking Incineroar for that. Plus, it would be a good excuse to have a Tiger Mask-esque fighter.
I still think the shilling is probably better evidence though. Because if it was Decidueye, I feel like we would be seeing Decidueye shilling instead. I am not saying that it's 100% Incineroar (it could be Mimikyu, Tapu Koko, Lycanroc or of course Decidueye), but I think the larger-than-usual promotion for Incineroar is fairly good evidence.

But that makes it even less of an excuse for Incineroars case for being in smash. Pikachu and Pichu were literal clones of one another except one was shitty. Incineroar can at least bring some new stuff to the table Charizard can't like having a focus on grappling and being a more traditionally tanky character as opposed to Charizard who hit like a heavyweight but moved like a lightweight.
