I played US with:
No exp share
Battle style is set
No Refresh
No items used during battle

It was a really fantastic run. I will do this for every game from now on. It turned the game from being a boring steamroll and forced me to use serious strategy, for the first time in the series. I never had to lose a couple of rounds to get an opponent's team/moveset down, then use TMs, to decide on movesets specifically for that battle. I would almost always be a bit underleveld but just using good strategy and prediction was so much funner than "imma spam full restore until they miss" or "oh, thanks for warning me they are sending in scizor, I'll just take my free switch to *fire type*"

Playing it efficiently would be getting 6 IV/EV trained egg move competitive pokemon from bank, all specifically designed to counter the game's biggest threats, loading them up with choice specs/bands/expert belts/etc. Then spamming X items/rotom power up before every battle. ALso import lots of rare candies so you can avoid all battling and stay JUST under the disobedience threshold. Or just throw them in isle evelup to achieve the same effect.

Just because gamefreak gives plenty of ways to cheese the game doesn't mean you have to take them. Go ahead and take them, but don't complain

Sorry gamefreak doesn't have actual difficulties, it would be nice. But spamming full restores and leaving exp share on IS easy mode. And like I said above, I used shit like exp share and refresh for a couple of games, and enjoyed the games much more when I stopped. You are only hurting yourself demanding that optional difficulty modifiers be tailored to just you

Hell, game balance is why battle simulators exist, if someone was whining about battlespot being unbalanced, they'd be an idiot for not just going on smogon

Like you are obviously not expected to get your starter and grind 1000s of Pidgeys before even touching the first gym. But the game also isn't made for you to do a level 1 ditto run either.

Not catching Pokemon or going out of your way to make the game harder on yourself is not reflective on the games intended difficulty.

Pokemon is intended for children, that's why as kids we found our first Pokemon game challenging but not overwhelming which made us want to keep playing, and why it felt great to get into the hall of fame for the first time.

This balance is intentional and is a key part to what makes pokemon so popular.

Which is why these threads about Pokemon only being easy if you grind alot or use a million healing items are retarded.

So? There's no reason for me to turn it off because it gives an advantage unless I specifically only want one Pokemon to gain EVs for competitive purposes.

The Pokemon Center gives me a Yes/No option before healing my Pokemon, does that mean the Yes/No option is some secret difficulty switch? Of course not, because that's fucking retarded and no regular person is going to assume so.

it is, it just becomes impossible. I don't know if I would consider such a vital mechanic as healing to be the same as "free exp for everyone!"

Keep in mind that the exp share could be mainly intended for people to rotate pokemon in and out. It makes it easier to experiment with lots of pokemon and integrate newer pokemon into your team without them being horribly underleveled for too long. Of course this is different for someone who only uses a tewam of six that they got on the first island and never changes them. Exp share allows for different playstyles and can easily be turned off, but you'd rather those other people lose a vital feature because you have no self control

if it's some stupid shit like "never use this button, or never use fire attacks" then it's obviously dumb. Like I said, you only hurt yourself as even if we never see eye to eye on this, you should know that gamefreak will probably never give you a hard mode, so go ahead and keep on spamming full restores and then whining about the games being easy

But using items in battle or getting free forewarned switches are such HUGE advantages that even with a hard mode that improves AI and buffs their levels, the games would still be easy. levels barely matter when you can get a free heal/boost whenever you want, or make sure that you always have an advantageous matchup. Besides gamefreak removing these options themselves which will never happen, I don't know what you expect to happen
