Problematic Pokemon to catch aren't an issue. It's the fact that the Pokemon that GF wastes this trait on are things like Dunsparce.

The Johto games are weird as fuck. All the actual new pokemon are rare and really hidden, you just use gen 1 mons for most of the game.

they sorta fixed this in HGSS with the safari zone earlier murkrow,misdreavus larvitar
and earlier slugma with egg code
you could even catch steelix in the cave before safari zone
but no Houndour

That's the point some pokemon only exist to be collected because their bad for battles, catching them has to require some effort to make it feel worth it. I'm not saying that, with this in mind they should make shit pokemon, but when they are shit at least you get something to do with them.

Catching them all is an absolute joke. Don't even get jack squat out of it besides an intangible certificate and making low tier trash 'hard to get' due to RNG is even more hilarious. Funny how Game Freak and the Pokemon Company don't push the 'Gotta Catch Em All' marketing catchphrase as hard as they used to.

yeah i agree. it was only a few years ago when i realized that, outside of the main campaign, there wasn't much else to do. trading was out of the question since nobody i know is as interested in Pokemon, so then i decided to catch what i can.

which led to this thread lol. idk how i managed to gloss over Qwilfish

At least HGSS has PokeAthlon. That mode is sick. If it incorporated DS Download Play for multiplayer, that mode would be even better.

I always was pissed off that the hard-to-find 1% swarm Pokemon were so fucking useless.

Tauros - Outclassed by Snorlax and other Normal-types
Marill - Outclassed by most Water-types; got slightly better in Gen IV but still not great
Yanma - Outclassed by almost every other Bug/Flying attacker. Got slightly better in Gen IV with Yanmega.
Dunsparce - Outclassed by every other Normal-type.
Snubbull - Literally outclassed by Ursaring
Qwilfish - Outclassed by Tentacruel and other bulky waters
Remoraid - Outclassed by other Water-type special attackers

I don't care if they're nonviable from a competitive standpoint, they feel valuable from a single-player perspective. You bet I caught Munchlax from honey trees, and I thought it was so cool because I took the time to get it without trading. Got Heracross, Spiritomb, Feebas, Dunsparce, you name it.

I think the heavier focus on multiplayer and making everything easily available kind of killed the experience of finding Pokémon. It's like that mindset of "You can't use mythicals in multiplayer so why should they even bother with them?". The single player experience just keeps suffering more, and no amount of story will fix that.

Not him but I wouldnt mind at all.

When HGSS came out I couldnt trade for Steelix (Metal Coat) then I found out theyre wild in the cave by the new Safari Zone. Buuut they have a 2% chance to appear.

I would personally be happier if my patience was rewarded or invested into a decent pokemon is all.

I don't think it is realistically accessible from the Safari Zone until much later in the game, but yu can definitely get one through the Pokewalker.
