That makes the choice of Umbreon really easy. But not Leafeon? It would be my only grass type when I already have Dark on the team, and it's also a bulky physical attacker.

Leafeon's Sp def is abysmal.

Umbreon and Flareon are the only ones that don't need sp attack and have sky high sp def

That's true, Leafeons shiny is ass. I could go Glaceon too but I wanted an Alolan Ninetails. Umbreon it is! And that gives me a good excuse to box my starter I don't really like any of them, Litten just had the least overlap with the team I wanted to build

Amie friendship is different from the type you need to evolve into Umbreon.

In Konikoni there's a black lady next to the sign with a CD on it. Talk to her and she says how much it loves you. If she says 'You clearly love your Pokémon, and you must spend a lot of time together' you're close, if not already there. Just level it up after seeing that message. If it doesn't evolve, you can always level it again until it finally does. Or reset the game and walk around a bit longer before trying again.

Yeah, make sure you remove any Fairy type moves when you go to evolve it. You get Sylveon if the Eevee has 2 hearts of affection from Refresh/Amie + a Fairy move in its moveset. Charm, for example.

I doubt you have any EV-reducing berries, those will raise friendship on top of removing any unwanted EVs. Otherwise, Soothe Bell and don't let it faint.

Don't give it malasadas either; that also raises affection, not friendship.
