Not to be a downer, but based on how recent new mechanics have been handled, I feel like if they implemented crossbreeds it would only be for a handful of mons and they'd ditch the mechanic in gen 9.

when i was a kid i had this dinosaur zoo game, dino island, and you could hybridise the dinosaurs and it would generate a 3d model with a blend of their parts and features. a proper blend, not just mixing and matching. and you could hybridise the cross breeds further and make infinite uniquely shaped new creatures, which all moved with their parents animations. not saying they should do it with pokemon, just that it's possible for them to do it without designing and animating 8 trillion things separately.

Would love this too but would also not mind settling for pokemon of mixed breeds having a the species of their mother but the aesthetics of their father. Like if you breed a female charizard with a male tyanitar you get a green charmander with a blue belly

wouldn't make sense for, say, a magnemite and skitty to be able to produce hybrids, but i could see them making pokemon in the same egg groups, or very similar ones like all the dog pokemon, be breedable together and rarely produce a hybrid. even if that's just one model with the other's skin, and a mix of types and moves, that seems very feasible.

Yeah I could see stuff like Skitty + Sneasel, or Growlithe + Furfrou. Basically dog mons and cat mons would be the easiest to design these for, and they'd probably be the most marketed.

I would imagine that there would only be a limited amount, and these hybrids would basically be new Pokemon, with maybe a few similarities. The Pokemon that could breed would be closely related or possibly have an influence, e.g. Horses, Dogs, Jackalope like OP, Griffin of Pyroar and Braviary, etc.

would love a combination of these ideas, with 'natural' cross breeds of closely related pokemon letting you end up with stuff like an edgy black horned arcanine or a pachirisu coloured pikachu, and some other mechanic where a few more distant pokemon can be mixed to make entirely new lines like op's picture, jackalopes, griffins, chimeras, sphinxes.
barely related but it would also be interesting if there were special shinies you could only get through breeding, representing domestic morphs of snakes and parrots and stuff.

it was always fun making new monsters in dragon warrior monsters. i've never bred for natures or ivs or whatever, but i'd have a lot of fun if i could make hybrids or new pokemon by breeding.

i absolutely hate the idea of pokemon fusion, any kind of fucking fusion makes me cringe.

But actually, cross breeding doesn't sound too bad.

I think this would be good.

Now, not all animals can breed with eachother in real life, and there are only a few crossbreeds, so I can think the same here. Just like how there are only few megas and Alolan forms, there should probably be only 10-20 of these.
I also think that maybe giving the mother a special item will result in this special breed and not just any breed.

I also want these Pokemon to resble something of its own (Like the jackleope) instead of just becuase a fusion.

I believe /vp/ has come to an agree that cross breeding should be implemented in Gen 8. I also love the idea but knowing GF, they'll fuck it up or only have 5-10 Pokemon who could do it. Like how Alola forms were very popular but GF was too lazy to not introduce more for USUM. Hopefully in whatever new region Gen 8 might be in. We get a region inclusive version of older mons.

spin off of the dragon warrior/dragon quest series from around the same time as pokemon. more traditional fantasy oriented world, a bit darker. good fun! huge variety of monsters, 300 in the one i played, dragon warrior monsters 2. finding good hybrids was a great aspect of the game. it wasn't specific to species but to type, so you would get, say, a zombie dragon, by crossing anything in the dragon group with anything in the undead group. and some of the strongest monsters were only available as 2nd or 3rd generation crosses, and it was also a fun thing to do with a couple of monsters you were no longer interested in keeping (you have limited space), you could cross them and roll the dice for something cool rather than just release them. would recommend it if you like retro fantasy rpg/monster fighting games.

Rules according to the artist:
- Pokemons with the same number of evolutions can breed (for example, Gardevoir and Gengar. The got both 3 stages)
- Only last stage pokemon can breed
- Pokemons with the same egg group can breed
