Why is there no fucking love for Pokemon Contests?
I used to love em as a kid and there's no community or anything for them. Is there a discord or an IRC I can join or something? I know they don't have Wi-Fi but atleast we can do Gen 3 netplay.

You get a Ribbon that has a number besides it that shows how many contest ribbons you got in older games. The ribbon is golden if you got master ranks.

They're a neat idea, but the sense of progression with them is really odd and it never feels like who you're up against matters.

It'd be nice if contests had something like the battle dome where you battled but were scored in a different way depending on the moves you used instead, rather than a simple knockout.

Plus you can't actually progress through the game using contests. They're not a constant thing that takes place throughout the games like gyms and other battles are.

One idea I had was treating the conditions like EVs, and they'd increase the amount of hearts of moves with corresponding attributes.

I mean they are in RS, but you just can't progress with it. It doesn't lead to its own league or final tournament that provides closure and a sense of accomplishment. It is closer to its own battle frontier mode than anything else.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Even in RS where they show up the most frequently and have contests spread across multiple towns, you don't even see them until you're past two gyms already, and they stop when you have two gyms left. Combine that with no sort of finale and they feel a lot less important than they could be.

Definitely gen 3. It wasn't polished, but it actually felt like an alternate battle system. Later gens made contests more about just dressing up your Pokemon.

Super Contests are way better. The Pokeblock making feature from RSE is changed into the Dancing competition and making Poffins is a lot more fun than just time-tapping. I remember you can also face off against characters like Fantina and Jasmine and even your own mom. The dressing up feature was also pretty cool. The best part was the inclusion of the three judges and the way voltages work. It makes the contest a lot more competitive and more like an actual full fledged competition. You can also take practice sessions so that's even better.

Love 'em, just wish they weren't so easy; very few of the AI opponents have any synergy at all. Lisia in ORAS was a great taste of what the upper ranks as a whole could have been. I would be down for a netplay circle.
