Yes, it ruin the line for me, same with Ash-Greninja and the unnecessary second mega for Charizard.

I have nothing against new forms for popular Pokémon, but I like them when those forms aren't a shameless try to sell merch or have not a good reason to be in the games. Dusk Lycanroc is the same as Ash-Greninja: a form that Ash got because he is special and no one had it before. In other words: for no reason, just buy Dusk Lycanroc and shut up.

It would be better if there were no Dusk AND Midnight.

I only like lycanroc default because of it's shiny. None of the forms looks like a rock type. A fluffy dog being rock is almost as stupid as Nihilego.

Was day really favored though or are we ignoring everything outside of meta stuff?

Night got a movie, event, and is apart of gladion's team in the anime.
Dusk got an event and is ash's alola ace and that alone is enough.
All day got for the most part was getting curb stomped by a angry pupper in the anime.

They gave the Shiny Beldum a stacked moveset so you could use it in game in ORAS and the XY Torchic and Munchlax weren't bad, either. They gave Rockruff okay moves, but the last three didn't get all new abilities.

It may not be priority 1, but clearly it's not something they don't care about.
