Why were the Z-Moves called Z-Moves anyway? Did they have correlation to Zygarde?

The Z in Z-Moves/Crystals/Rings was explained in USUM to stand for Zenith.

Sina and Dexio say more or less that Zygarde made it's cells go to Alola because it sensed something wrong in the region which is implied to be the Ultra Beasts. So the point of the side quest was to gather the cells and combat the Ultra beasts in the post game which is why some cells appear post game.
