What got you back into Pokemon?

Played a little of gen 1 when i was little, don't remember if i finished it or not, played and completed ruby and then emerald, tried a little of diamond when it came out, quitted after like 6 hours, didn't play anything pokemon other than the first 2 mystery dungeons, several years later i decided to give gen V a try, loved it, didn't know more than 15 of the pokemon in that gen and the few i knew i thought some of them were from other gens, it was like playing pokemon for the first time again

I'm on hiatus right now. Lost my 3DS and Y with almost perfect legit living dex(short about 3 legendaries) a bit under 2 years ago and haven't felt like buying new console.

Gen 6 is what got me fully back into Pokémon. I was a huge fan of the anime as a kid (since I was 5 up to 11 years old) and played my first Pokémon game when I was 13 (emulated RSE, Nintendo consoles were unobtainable here). Up until I was 18, I only played some of the games on and off, ignoring Gen 5. When Gen 6 was announced, I became interested enough to buy a 3DS for my 20th birthday. And since then, I've been interested in the games more than ever.

Started a forced hiatus with the mainline games, my 3DS is fucked up and I need to save money to fix it. I'm keeping up with TCGO or maybe older games while I'm on it.

Played yellow when it came out. Over and over again. Gbc and game were given to me by rich friends. Couldn't afford another game, i.e. gold/crystal.

Years pass. My 7 year old daughter got a 2ds xl this Christmas so i bought her ultra sun and bought my partner a 2ds xl with ultra moon.

Now I'm feeling jealous. I buy a pika 2ds xl, and a physical copy of every single game apart from blue and red. Also got 2 ds lites and 2 gbas to trade between the versions. Planning to buy the vc versions so i can transfer gen i and ii stuff forward.

I havent actually had the time to play any of them in the 5 months since i started buying.

Pokemon was past the Pokemania phase by late gen 2 so I was pretty much encouraged to "move on" from it. I skipped Gen 3, then got back into it with Gen 4 as I already had a DS. Nowadays I go through spurts of playing it a lot, or not at all.

It hurts. I loved emerald and platinum, but now I can't stand the updated versions of the same games anymore. I set a goal to get close to finishing UM this week, and I've been playing more emerald instead. I don't think I'll ever be able to go back and play B2W2.

I only missed out on Gen 3 because I couldn't afford an Advance at the time. When I got a DS, I got Diamond.
I skipped Gen 7 on purpose however.
