GSC did so many fucking things right it's crazy. I kind of forgave RSE for not having night/day when I realized that it was a trick with swapping palettes and that was probably not something that could be done as easily on the GBA.

Maybe because even though it's night time, it's still safe, you know? There's nothing scary in Pokémon, so you can appreciate the night and it's positives (owls coming out, for example) without having to worry - especially as a kid, so in that regard, nostalgia would play a part.
