Also, I doubt they'd bother with it anyway. If anything they'll probably have the new Amie use the motion controls for petting shit.

Depends upon how you're coming at it. If you don't care about having it as a console, then that's the gimmick.

If you already have another system then it's the handheld that the gimmick.

A very popular, well done gimmmick unlike the 3DS since 80% of user base uses it 50% or more of the time in handheld.

Not necessarily. They could have a chunk of the screen space reserved for a "bottom screen" style thing. Like say, having the map/rotomdex always on the left third of the screen while traveling around, while in battle thats where the menus sit.
