Grass-type starters are suffering. Can we just make Fire strong against Water and cut out the obligatory grass starter? They're all shit. Now Fire/Water aren't perfect by any means but they do have their share of redeeming ones. Grass is just... ouch.

I liked Chikorita as a kid. Named it Chico. Bayleef is cool too. This last stage though? ... in general, I still think Gen 2 starters were too, what's the word ... simple? but there has to be a middle ground. Gen 6 starters are vomit inducing busy.

The design is not this Pokémon's problem.

While grass has actually great designs:

>a gaint fast gecko with a sharp tail
>a turtle with a continent on its back
>a royal snake
>hulk
>robin hood
>generally about extinct animals

Grass starters have more creative designs. Water starter all are ugly as shit so they don't matter)

Charmander was at least nice against all the early bug catchers and had good offensive stats. Chikorita is built as a defensive support pokemon, but early on you don't have other good mons to support, and it doesn't learn any major support moves until way later.

On top of that, it is more girly, which probably hurt its chances when it came out.
