>>35499336I see plenty of Kanto references, and I don't find them distasteful. Pokemon's popularity peaked with gen 1. From a business perspective, trying to pull in old players with a nostalgia factor by putting new spins on classic Pokemon (mega evolutions or Alola forms) makes sense. Based on sales, it certainly isn't hurting their business.
I didn't like mega evolution at first but it grew on me. I wish they would have thought about the longevity of the concept and how it would effect the balance of the game, because that truly is one of the glaring flaws with mega evolution.
I thought Alola forms were an excellent concept and went well with the region. I don't care for some of the designs, and I wish that we would have received forms from various regions, but it is what it is.
I'm sorry a Pokemon or generation you like weren't fairly represented by these new mechanics in gens 6&7. At the same time I don't fault game freak for trying to appeal to former fans because at the end of the day they are concerned about the bottom line. Many of the original 151 are recognizable whether someone played the games or not. It only makes sense to capitalize on your most recognizable assets. As someone who lived through the original pokemania, I've had plenty of friends in the same age range take interest in gen 4 for the new evolutions introduced, and again in gen 6 for mega evolutions. Only a few of them started playing again but that's exactly what game freak wanted.
In summary, I don't see this marketing strategy going anywhere. If you truly find it that gratuitous and appalling then stop playing the games. The only one stopping you is you. If enough people agree with you and stop playing for the games, maybe your voice will be heard. Otherwise get over it.
