>>35509096>Gen5, however, focuses more on the story than the main part, explorationHonestly, I find it odd that so many people on /vp/ nowadays think like at. Pokemon really never was about exploration. It was about your journey sure, but that's not the same as exploration.
Even the most open Pokemon game followed a very linear progression structure. They might've had more "dungeons" but those too are just straight paths presented in a winding manner, you only have to go from your starting point to the end.
If this "exploration" is about optional areas than all games have roughly the same amount. At least it's not as if one game had overwhelmingly more than the others.
Gen 1 had the powerplant and the Seafoam islands as fully realized, completely optional side areas. Black and White had the P2 Laboratory and its routes as well as Unova's eastern half which consists of 3 cities and their corresponding routes.
I know that I am being an autistic faggot nitpicking a single word but I do think that many people on this board misrepresent Pokemon in their heads, or at least have a dishonest image of this franchise is/was about.
And just to be clear, I'm not retarded. I obviously get your point that Gen 5 included more story heavy elements which drag the pace of the game down. I didn't mind it since I liked the more nuanced narrative of those games but of course, if you dislike the story in a more story centered game or just dislike the stronger focus on story in general than you'd obviously dislike the game.
I was more talking about how people around here use the term "exploration" in regards to Pokemon.
It's like 2 am here and I'm just writing paragraphs about fucking Pokemon structure. This is probably just dumb rambling at this point but whatever.
Good day to you, sir.
