Pokemon following you.
Less cutscenes more lore.
The ability to skip cutscenes and dialog.
Less pointless characters and waifubait.
100+ plus new Pokemon.
Little to no hand holding.
Varied postgame. Stuff like side quests and Battle Frontier.
Actual fucking dungeons.
Actual fucking puzzles.
Legendaries incorporated into the world, not just thrown about in random portals as a lazy postgame.
No gimmicks that effect the core gameplay like mega, regional forms, or z-moves.
Side objectives like contests and tv studio returning.
Actual Safari Zone.

I can see it happening now since they’re on a console rather than a handheld which means longer development times and the fact that they’ve started adding new Pokémon mid gen as of USUM. They no longer feel the need to rely on new gens to introduce new Pokémon, which will blur the lines between what constitutes a new gen going forward. We might get one long Gen 8 to cover the entirety of the Switch’s life cycle instead of one normal one (4, 6) and a short one at the end of it’s life (5, 7).
