Hey guys. I’ve done a bit of research on this game, and I’ve been interested to buy it since I saw it in a “best games youve played” thread.

My questions are; is it worth it? Why? I know there’s a lot of differences between the original two and the sequels. Will they be game breaking and ruin my experience? Will I understand what’s going on having not played the original Black and White? Are they more difficult? Should I just go with the original Black version?

I’ve been killing over a new Pokémon game to get for a while now and I can’t decide which I should get. Thanks for your input in advance.

I'd get an emulator and download the ISO and play it off that. Most computers can emulate a DS no problem.

It's not a complete new story. It's the direct sequel to the first one.
If you don't play BW first, it's like watching Empire Strikes back without knowing A new Hope.

But you are supposed to play them in order, black 1 -> black 2. First game is not that good, but has best plot in the series.

Preferably play Black 1 first, then Black 2. But you don't have to, it doesn't ruin your experience not doing so. The game does a good job in telling you what you missed and what's going on, and the only things that are really taken from the original you need the original to unlock (fighting your rivals from the original, having your name be mentioned in conversations, new cutscenes, etc.).

Either way it's a good choice. Gen 6 and 7 have nothing of worth, Diamond and Pearl are garbage, HGSS is only good if you play it with heavy nostalgiagoggles and Platinum is just alright.

Ok, so then you guys recommend to get both then. That’s also something I thought about. Are the stories between Black and White different? Or like the others in the Pokémon series with minor changes?

It's just minor changes. Aesthetically, White focuses more on nature, while Black focuses more on technology. Story-wise, they both have the same story, but the goal of N is different; in White he wants to pursue ideals and bring upon a perfect world, whereas in Black he pursues truth and wants to make everything balanced. But both things he does the exact same things to achieve, so there really so no difference at all outside of his dialogue.

So basically BW2 are the games I've spent the most time playing out of all main series games, just because it held me interested with the amount of content in the game.

The story characters are a continuation of the BW1 story, but most characters don't exactly have a lot of depth to them, so you'll quickly pick up on who they are.

I highly reccomend you try BW2. If you want to play BW1 too but not spend too much time with it, just use an Excadrill for the whole game.

There is this hate for HG/SS because there is too much grinding to beat red or some parts if you are a friendless person that can't get a lucky egg and traded pokemon for the exp boosts. People here complain about the level curve un johto and kanto.

The wild Pokémon are all extremely underlevelled, Johto Pokémon are extremely rare despite the game taking place in Johto, the trainers all use shitty teams composed of Zubats and Pidgeys and Rattattas, Team Rocket only shows up like three times in the """story""" and have even worse teams than the normal trainers have, they give up after a single battle before they even got to do anything, the story itself is absolute dogshit, the game doesn't tell you what to do or where to go even though it's linear as fuck, and when you finally unlock Kanto it's just empty and barren and dead. HGSS is only good if you have strong nostalgia for the original GSC, in which case you're already used to all the bad things and can accept them (probably), but if you're not wearing nostalgia glasses these games are not worth your time at all.

It's probably the best pokemon game because of all the things it did, the amount of content it has and the quality of life improvements it brought, it has
>Great amount of main game and post game content
>Great quality of life improvements like now TMs can be used as much as you want
>Good amount of challenge in the main story, plus it has a new game challenge mode that isn't really that hard but it's there
>And it added 150+ new pokemon, which is massive
it also got pretty fun side activities such as the poke movie studio and the medal achievement system

Also i’m not too sure if you’d understand completely what’s going on if you’ve never played through BW1.
Old characters like N,Ghetsis,Cheren, and Bianca would be sort of confusing to you when they do show up.
Especially N.

Obviously the Pokémon games are a bit flawed here and there but if I have fun with it and not get stone walled like I am in my Pokémon Y game I’ll enjoy it.

If version exclusives have neither things you want, go with White 2 because its cover legendary is more useful in post game if you want to use it. Granted I do prefer Black's exclusive City.

Well I try and use version exclusives in my team, at least one anyway. I’ll have to look up the different ones then. I do tend to like nature themes more then tech ones but looks like I’ll need to look up a bit more

I stopped playing pokemon in Gen 3 and 5 years later I returned to playing BW2 and it rejunevated my interesting in the whole franchise and made me a permanent fan.
Go get it if you like. I suggest BW first if you don't mind having only gen 5 pokemon in the main storyline. Else just enjoy BW2.

Mind you some of the Gen 5 new mons might not really fit your taste.
IMO the more modern graphics, faster battle animations, rad OSTs infinite TM etc are the main appeal of gen 5. The mon designs are hit or miss for most people.

This seems to vary. Common shit like Hoothoots, spinarak, Mareep and others arent that hard to come by, but others like Houndour and Larvitar are post-game, so I only sorta agree.

It was in the same era of DPPt where we dont really get a story but explore and have elements of one presented to us in the events that unfold. The problem was that a lot of areas didnt have anything significant like that beyond Team Rocket doing shit/Rival interactions

As someone who recently beat that game for the first time after skipping it on release, yes it's worth it.
Fantastic region and content with plenty to do. Story isn't as good as the first BW imo, but is a satisfying follow-up. You will appreciate the game more after having played the first, but won't be confused if you don't. They are more difficult, though mainly in the postgame.

It's honestly better enjoyed if you've played the first game. There's a crapton of post-game, and Unova feels really expansive even considering the fact that the goddamn region is laid out in a circle. It's also the last hoorah of spritemons, which is a plus in my book
