There's no "sound compression" in Gen 2. The music isn't a prerecorded MP3 like it is in the 3DS games, there wasn't enough space for that on those old cartridges (the gen 2 games are 2 fucking megabytes in size each, and that's the whole game including music, sound, code, environments, etc). The music is stored in a format similar to MIDI files, and the GB's sound chip synthesizes them on-the-fly using the primitive waveforms it's capable of producing. The "uncompressed" version of the songs is the version that comes directly from the Game Boy's speaker. It literally can't be any higher quality than that.
